About Our Programs

The goal of Brothers Against Guns is tp provide constructive activities and viable opportinities for youth to prevent at risk youth from becoming involved with the criminal justice system and decrease recidivism among high risk youth.

Strategies, Activities and Services

Identify and recruit youth, between the ages of 9 and 25, who are involved in gangs, at-risk for gang involvement, and/or involved in violent activities to participate in the Brothers Against Guns program.

Our programs are segmented into several groups:


GANG TURF CONFLICT INTERVENTION

Comprehensive intervention and support services around issues of gang/turf related violence by providing weekly workshops on issues of anger management and conflict resolution, intervening through discussion with parties involved with gang/turf related issues, weekly individual counseling sessions for program participants, organizing quarterly meetings among members of different sets or neighborhood gangs to resolve conflicts and potentially explosive situations.


SCHOOL BASED SUPPORT

Decrease truancy, rates of suspension and dropout rates of program participants by monitoring grades with progress reports and attendance records, track progress, contact school officials, visit schools, identify barriers that adversely affect student performance.


COUNSELING AND CASE MENEGEMENT SERVICES

Reduce recidivism within the juvenile justice system by program participants, by identifying needs and determining if intervention advocacy or other services are required working in partnership with judges, probations officers, social workers and parents, accompanying participants to court hearings and other meetings with juvenile justice, setting goals and following up on progress, and providing job readiness workshops ad job placement.


SUPERVISED RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIED

Participate in recreational and sports activities, field trips, cultural enrichment activities, provide a safe place for participants to learn and socialize after school, facility open Monday through Friday (3:00 pm - 8:00 pm). Supervision provided at all times and snacks are available.


CALLABORATIVE SERVICES

Collaborative Services with TURF, Young Community Developers, 100% College Prep, Hunters Point Foundation, Southeast Community Response Network, Ella Hill Hutch, Huckleberry Youth Services, Rapha House, San Francisco Unified School District, San Francisco Juvenile Probation, San Francisco Department of Children Youth and Families and Mayors Office of Community Investment.
